Females in Football at Oatley F.C.
Oatley F.C. aims to be the preferred club for females in the St George Football Association. Our Club has a rich history of female players, many of whom have played for the Club from their very early years and are still playing in the senior women’s teams. Many players still come from out of area to play with us even after they have moved out of the Oatley.
Female participation ratios in the club currently exceed the state average and in 2018 there were more teenage females playing football at Oatley FC than males!
Female participation in the younger ages is also strong and only growing.
From U6 to U9, girls can choose to play in mixed teams on a Saturday or form all female teams as desired and play in a dedicated female comp also on a Saturday.
From U10 to U12, girls can still choose to play in mixed teams on a Saturday or form all female teams as desired and play in a dedicated female comp on a Sunday.
Up to and including U11, both Saturday and Sunday comps, regardless of gender, are non-competition matches and teams usually train once a week.
From U12, the matches move to the full field size and from non-competition to competition regardless of gender. Scores are reported and a finals series is played. The majority of U12 girls in our club are usually playing in the female only competition on Sundays by this age although playing on a Saturday in the mixed competition is still possible if desired. Training is usually once a week.
From U14, females participate in graded (A/B) competitions running on a Sunday with training once or twice a week. Finals series are played.
Females aged 17 years and above play in graded All Age Women (AAW) competitions on a Sunday. Oatley FC usually register two or more teams in a higher and lower grade each year. All Age Women teams train once or twice a week depending on grade level.
In 2019, two new age ranges for female football will also be offered in addition to AAW, the U21 and O30 competitions.
U21 Women’s competition for females aged 17-21 years (16 year olds may also ‘play up’ in this age group if desired)
O30 Women’s competition for females aged over 30 years who may not wish to play in AAW.

2018
Our U12G team were minor and major premiers, decisively winning the Grand Final played at Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah. They progressed through two rounds of the 2018 U12G FNSW Champions of Champions competition before being unlucky in the quarter final round going down in penalty shoot outs after a draw at the end of extra time.
Our All Age Women A grade team had success in the Grand Final played at the brand new Ador Ave Synthetic pitch. Coming from 2nd place season finish on the ladder they played well as a team in the finals series to deservedly finish Premiers.
Our U16G A grade team were very unlucky to finish one point off minor premiers in 2018 and then be denied success in the Grand Final after being held to draw. Fortunately, many of this young team were eligible to form an U15G team to take on U15G FNSW Champions of Champions. They were fought hard in the first round to come away winner but were ultimately beaten by the previous year’s U14 Champions of Champions winners in the next round.
2017
Our Under 14 Girls won the A grade comp and represented St George in the FNSW Champion of Champions tournament making it through to the 3rd round.
Our All Age Women C grade team were also minor and major premiers in 2017.
Female Representation at St George Football Association
We are fortunate to have female representation at St George Football Association and we aim to be at the forefront of advocacy for female participation at grassroots level soccer. Oatley FC is a contributor to female footballs forums and advisory panels and has been invited to participate in workshops with Football NSW.
Female participation on and off the field
Oatley F.C. warmly welcomes female participation in all aspects of our club whether it be coaching or managing your son or daughter’s team or volunteering to help out on the committee. Many of our female senior and junior competition players have given up their time in the 2018 season and beyond to assist with running of the canteen, equipment maintenance, coaching of younger teams and the mini-Roos program as well as umpiring. Their involvement is greatly valued by the club and underpins our family friendly club.
